Transfer Stations
The Winnebago Landfill Company operated the City of Freeport, Illinois municipal landfill from 1998 until it was filled to capacity and closed in 2002. The quality performance of the Winnebago Landfill Company resulted in Freeport’s decision to negotiate with a private company to develop a transfer station on the landfill property to generate fees for the city and provide efficient disposal for residents. Winnebago Landfill Company and Moring Disposal teamed up to negotiate a 25-year contract for residential collection and the operation of the transfer station. The Freeport Transfer Station, which opened in July 2006, offers disposal of municipal solid waste, recyclables, and landscapes waste.
